的同事,

It is nice to have a full complement of staff, faculty 和 students back on campus as the beginning of the fall semester officially gets underway for what promises to 这是一个令人兴奋的学年.

Seeing the campus come to life, having the opportunity to greet students as they moved into the residence halls 和 attending events like Taste of UNC are just a few reasons why this ranks among my favorite — if not the favorite — time of the year.

Against the backdrop of this positive energy, we are in a great position to continue building on the momentum of what we set in motion last year. 我们会有计划的 eliminate our structural deficit by the end of the year. 我们一直在努力创造 a much more transparent environment with activities such as Budget 101 discussions 还有市政厅. We also combined two divisions (校友 和 Development, 和 University Relations) into the division of University Advancement, re-established the division of Student Affairs, 和 are committed to improving our enrollment 和 student success 努力. Thank you for your hard work, diligence 和 commitment to UNC as we continue to accomplish significant milestones together.

Summer proved to be busy (和 lots of fun). To hit a few of the high points, I visited an academy at the Tointon Institute 和 had the opportunity to meet a wonderful group of Colorado K-12 educational leaders — many of them UNC graduates. 克里和我参观了 the Western Slope 和 met fellow presidents at Adams State, Fort Lewis 和 Western. We discussed opportunities to work together. I also presented to the Greeley City Council 和 Weld County Commissioners 和 had one-on-one meetings with legislators, Joint Budget Committee 和 Capital Development Committee members, 和 Colorado Department of Higher Education officials as we explore opportunities to further advance education 在这个州. This fall, I have more visits planned with Colorado State-Pueblo 和 the Colorado School of Mines as we continue to collaborate for the greater good.

On campus, we hosted a legislative wrap-up session with elected officials 和 government relations personnel, 和 we started implementing our Strategic Enrollment 和 Student Success (捐) plan, led by Professor Joan Clinefelter 和 Interim Assistant Vice 总统 of Strategic Enrollment Sean Broghammer. Action teams have been busy addressing “summer melt” in communication with students, improving processes for transfer students, 和 implementing a coaching 和 advising system for students at greatest risk of leaving. 谢谢博士. Clinefelter,博士. Broghammer, 和 all of the staff 和 faculty who have been working so hard on the 税计划.

Summertime provided opportunities for other activities, too. 我喜欢做日语 戳碗和 记录演示 with Nutrition 和 Dietetics faculty, who chose this activity after being the highest bidder for my services during an auction to support CSCPASC 在最后春天的员工宴会上. I attended my first Greeley Stampede 和 had a wonderful time taking in the parade (our volleyball team 和 Outdoor Pursuits office had floats), concerts (REO Speedwagon) 和 pro rodeo (yee-haw!). 没有什么夏天是不完整的 requisite rounds of disc golf 和 spending time in the great outdoors. 我管了管 Poudre River, fished several lakes, skydived with students, 和 hiked Greyrock 和 Horsetooth岩石. In a bittersweet moment last week, Kerry 和 I saw our son, Nick, 去上大学. I gained a new perspective into what parents 和 supporters experience 送走他们的亲人.

As we turn our attention to the fall, we will launch a major strategic planning process 和 continue to invest in activities that will better serve students 和 reduce costs. I will talk in greater detail about this at the annual State of the University address Sept. 10. I encourage you to participate in one of the open forums Provost Mark Anderson 和 我将在9月主持会议. Dates 和 times will be announced in UNC 今天. 这将 合作努力. We want to know what you think our vision for UNC should be 和 where we want to be in both the near 和 long term. 对一个清晰的愿望 identity 和 vision is something reaffirmed by our partners at Huron, who have provided 有关我们的 组织结构. Last month, Huron surveyed about 600 employees about how they use their time — particularly in terms of how they support students — 和 also engaged about 150 people in interviews 焦点小组. As we continue to work on the 捐 plan this fall, we will dig into their findings 和 look for opportunities to address them as a campus.

Throughout the year, there will be multiple opportunities to provide feedback. 你的 involvement will be crucial to our success. As always, I welcome your questions 和 评论. Feel free to email me directly at 安迪.feinstein@domestictunerz.com.

祝这一年多产!
